Post-Holiday Joy, A Gasp of Breath for Britpop, and a Heart-Stopping Image to say goodbye to 2006
[transmission from... Tyler Sonnichsen]
So, here we are again. That awkward week between Christmas and New Years where post-holiday joy mixes with the inevitable
unnecessary social anxiety around New Year's Eve, that fellow DC Comic Danny Rouhier called "the prom for adults." Unsurprisingly,
I don't have one solid thing to right about, but several wavering things. So dig in and enjoy.
General Holiday Wishes
I do hope that you all had great holidays, got lots of nice things, saw the two or three relatives out of 200 that you can
actually stand, and got a chance to say goodbye to 2006 in a somewhat relaxed state. Be grateful that you didn't spend it at your in-laws' down in Florida, taking on an army of bees renegade-style. What I wonder is, who has a 40 lb Dodge Caravan trailer hitch sitting around and waiting to be thrown?
A Breath of Fresh Air for Britpop
My buddy Shelby Cinca wrote about the new Jarvis Cocker solo album on the Buddyhead MP3 Blog, which as of now is only available as an Import. In my opinion, it's a good listen as one would expect from the guy behind
Pulp, but not worth the jacked up import price. He threw in a link to the video for Jarvis' first single "Don't Let Him Waste
Your Time," and I can seriously say it is one of the funniest and characteristically self-effacing music videos I have seen
in a long time. Unless you have a close relative who's been run over by a cab recently, watch the video.
I don't know why I'm doing this, but there exists a beautifully photoshopped image that I feel I need to show all of you.
It doesn't matter who you are, how demented your sense of humor is, you will be offended and amazed.
My friend Jake, who I had the honor of seeing for the first time in a while over Christmas weekend, has this consistently
entertaining blog called Internet Dogfist. (I didn't include a link for a reason, hear me out). He has started an annual photoshop
contest. Last year's first annual contest theme was "snake-babies." This year, it's "you and a baby in a place you shouldn't
be." Here is my submission (Notice: this is NOT it):
Simple enough, right? Until I met up with Jake and Dan and a crew for dinner in New York that night, I was the frontrunner.
However, on Christmas Day, I checked Jake's site, and saw what all the fuss was about. Check your pretenses at the door and
click here to find out why Adobe created the wonder that is Photoshop....
